This popular training scheme is Irish Mountain Training Board (BOS)
approved and runs over a number of separate weekends. It is designed
to help walkers to develop personal proficiency on the Irish hills
during summer conditions. The complete programme consists of two
2-day training courses with an optional assessment over a third
weekend. It is possible to complete just one or two weekends, or
the entire programme. Although there are no pre-entry requirements,
a reasonable level of fitness and some basic hillwalking experience
would be beneficial. All weekends are highly practical and involve
full days on the hills with added indoor brainstorming sessions.

For all Mountain
Skills 1 and Mountain Skills
2 participants who successfully completed one of our courses:
we offer monthly practice walks with an experienced and qualified
Mountain Leader. These walks are full-day walks, usually in
the Wicklow hills and on a Sunday. They will be publicized
by email and on this website.
Please note - this is not a guided walk or an
instructor session. It's merely a walk with likeminded people;
it will give you a chance to practice your skills and to ask
any questions you may have.
Cost: €20 p.p. (payable in cash
on the day to the leader).
Pre-booking essential! Please book by phoning 01 4582889 or
send an email to: walking@kippure.com
Next walk: Sunday 12th November.
Location: Glendalough (meet at Upper Car Park at 11.00 a.m.)
